Did you know? Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) was once a major coffee producer — until a plant disease in the 1860s wiped out the coffee crop. That misfortune turned into a boon for tea lovers: planters replanted with tea, and Ceylon tea quickly became world-famous. To this day, Sri Lankan tea is still proudly known as “Ceylon tea” around the globe, a nod to its rich history.
